Could these ‘talking points’ of insurance & bond salesmen and misguided members of the press actually be paralyzing our future and our view of markets? Examine the facts and great information The Financial Coach shares from William J. Bernstein’s book ‘The Investor’s Manifesto.’

The Financial Coach discusses and explains why we don’t know what the future will be or what will ever happen. All we can know is that things probably won’t ever be the same tomorrow as it is today! As an investor you must TRULY DIVERSIFY (not the kind of diversification that the brokerage firms teach!) and realize different parts of the market behave differently at all times. As of of this posting, the SP 500 is down nearly 3% the last couple of days while commodities and US Treasuries have surged. If you’re using some of the big firms learn the truth before your portfolio takes another beating!

Most investors are their worst enemies when it comes to investing along with the corrupt marketing system of selling investments that we call Wall Street & brokerage firms (and their minions: Financial Salespeople). Not understanding our risks in an investment strategy, falling prey to clever marketing and ‘Past Performance’ along with emotions that sidetrack us spell one thing and one thing only: loss and emotional pain.

Before you invest, DO NOT fall prey to investment ‘hype’ such as past performance or a fund managers ‘skill’. Instead, first know what you want to achieve and then use investment strategies and a policy statement that guides your investing in good times and bad. Keep costs low, rebalance and stay focused to achieve success.

The argument has raged for years that mutual funds and brokers can deliver better returns by their ‘knowledge’ concerning the market. While many investors fall prey to this misinformation, the truth has slowly gotten out and investors are learning. While managed funds still prey upon the ‘greedy’ with the idea that they can pick winners, facts show that you are more likely to be a ‘loser’ and achieve below market returns as a result. Study the journals and documentation and then make the decision. Trying to pick winners or use mutual funds and brokers that peddle this garbage are setting you up for failure. Stock picking, market timing and most importantly, track record investing (looking at past performance), is absolutely no way to invest.
